2017-2018 Chapter President

As President of the ASHRAE Richmond Chapter, I value all of our volunteers and their efforts. We have a great team and continue to grow making a difference in our industry. Background: Kevin is a Chemical Engineer by degree with 8+ years of HVAC industry experience.  He currently serves as a Sales Engineer for Johnson Controls focusing on account management and business development.
Rodes Boyd 2017-2018 Vice President I am honored to serve as the 2017-2018 ASHRAE Richmond Chapter Vice President and Programs Chair. This year, I plan to continue growing and developing our chapter by building on the strong foundation established by our presidents and board members in years past.   Background: Rodes Boyd is an Energy Services Account Manager at Trane, joining the company in 2012. In this role he serves as a business results advisor to his clients helping them achieve their top and bottom line results by utilizing their buildings as a resource. Prior to joining Trane he was in commercial banking and financial analysis at multiple regional Virginia firms. Along with serving on ASHRAE, Rodes is the Chair of ChamberRVA’s HYPE Leadership Team, serving as an advisor on the ChamberRVA Executive Committee, and is on the Board of Directors for Viridiant, a local Richmond non-profit providing sustainability and energy efficiency consulting to the housing and light commercial sectors. Outside of working hours Rodes enjoys spending time with his family (fiancé Allison, and two dogs Tory and Dylan,) as well as golfing with friends around VA. Robert Baxter 2017-2018 President Elect As President-Elect, Rob’s chief focus is to prepare himself for his term as chapter President and to fill in for Kevin Dofflemyer at any ASHRAE event in which he would be unavailable.  Background:  I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. I have since worked as an engineer for the Richmond/Charlottesville Johnson Controls branches focused on our HVAC equipment line of business. In the past I have served as Secretary and Treasurer for our ASHRAE chapter. Kathleen MacKinnon, PE 2017-2018 Chapter Treasurer   Background:   After graduating from UVA's Engineering School in 2010, Kate was hired by John Dunlap and has been a part of the Dunlap & Partners team since.  Here, being so privileged to work with and learn from such a talented design team, she received her PE in 2015, and has continued to pursue excellence in mechanical design spanning the breadth of commercial, healthcare, educational, and institutional applications. Nathan Karr 2017-2018 Research Promotion Chair ASHRAE’s research program, established in 1912, supports 140 research projects with a combined value of more than $15 million.  As the Research Promotion Chair and immediate Past President, I am honored to champion the Richmond Chapter’s support of ASHRAE’s important research mission.  Background:  Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years of experience in mechanical construction consisting of business development, preconstruction, estimating, plan/spec, design-assist and design-build. Coordination & review of cost estimates, equipment specifications, purchasing, vendor selection & target value goals. Tyler Berry, PE 2017-2018 Membership Promotion Chair As Membership Promotion Chair of the ASHRAE Richmond Chapter, my goal is to encourage and develop new membership at all levels, which includes reaching out to professionals and students for potential new members. I also work on encouraging any lapsed members to renew their membership and stress the importance of that membership.  Background:  I am a graduate of VCU’s School of Engineering and also serve as Vice-President of their Alumni Board. As a Mechanical Engineer at Engineers Plus, I work on a wide variety of projects within commercial and industrial buildings and facilities. I follow the projects from start to finish and try to provide the best solutions to challenging projects for my clients. Andy Hobson 2017-2018 Student Activities Chair & Secretary As Student Activities Chair for the chapter, my goal is to continue to grow the VCU ASHRAE Student Chapter as well as get younger K-12 students interested in engineering and the sciences in general. I also oversee the scholarship committee and mentorship program for the Richmond chapter.  Background:  I graduated from VCU with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2012. Since graduating, I have worked for TLA Inc. as an Outside Sales Engineer. Wade Saxton, CPMP, CxPP 2017-2018 Chapter Refrigeration Chair As the Refrigerant Chair of the ASHRAE Richmond Chapter, I look forward to coordinating the Richmond area refrigeration activities including training and speakers with current, former and new ASHRAE Members.   Background:  Commissioning and Startup Manager with 15+ years in the mechanical trade including service and design of refrigerant mechanical systems, ASHRAE CPMP (Commissioning Process Management Professional). Kristy Schomaker, LEED O&M, CEM 2017-2018 YEA Chair As the Young Engineer Association Chair, I focus on creating environments where the next generation of ASHRAE members can network, collaborate, and be more engaged in the ASHRAE community.  Background: Industrial Engineering with 10+ years of experience in energy, controls, and intelligent Buildings.  I strive to find the potential for bettering our buildings and creating outcomes that speak to business results and organizational impacts.
